Are you one of those people wanting to play a 3D browser-based game but belong to the unfortunates who have crappy hardware or have missing browser plug-ins? Are you one of those gamers who just wanted to play without having to worry about browser system requirements? Do you want to play that awesome 3D web-based game which everyone is raving about except you?

I do.

Currently, most 3D BBGs (browser-based games) requires browser Java or plug-ins (i.e. Flash or Shockwave Player). Despite that most developers promote their game as "No Downloads!" or "Ready to Play on Your Browser," these softwares are still... downloadables.

Being accepted to a game beta-testing and not being able to participate in it really is disappointing at times, especially that the current plug-ins I have encountered are executable files (.exe files for Windows). What's the problem, you ask? I am using a Mac. Despite that it is a browser-no-download-needed game, some system requirements for 3Ds are very limiting sometimes.

With the introduction of WebGL, I think our prayers have been answered, our options have been widen...

"Two open-source developments move a step closer to hardware-accelerated 3D web graphics that take advantage of the latest capabilities in modern GPUs.

Industry consortium the Khronos Group used SIGGRAPH 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana, Tuesday to showcase more details about their WebGL working group. Khronos also introduced a number of refinements to its OpenGL API set."

"... software makers that includes browser makers Mozilla, Opera and Google announced their plans to deliver built-in 3D graphics in Web pages that won’t require a plug-in or add-on to the browser.

WebGL, as the new technology is known, is easily described as a browser-based version of OpenGL, the Open Graphics Library specification developed by Silicon Graphics in 1992. You can run OpenGL in a browser today using a plug-in from Unity Technologies, but native support from the big browser makers will eventually put this technology in front of a much larger, less technical audience."
